The City of Omaha is excited to announce the winning names from its snow plow naming contest: Scoop Dogg and Darth Blader. These creative names were selected by Omaha residents in a recent community vote. 

Project Update | December 19, 2024

Beginning in mid-January 2025, southbound 72nd Street will be closed at I-80, creating a full closure of 72nd Street from I-80 to F Street. Northbound 72nd Street will also remain closed for approximately six months. View the detour.  

72nd & D Street Bridges

The existing bridge is reaching the end of its useful life and the corridor is over capacity during peak travel times. The key benefits of this project is to improve capacity and safety, and decrease congestion.

Improvements

  • Replace existing bridges with a wider, lower maintenance bridge or bridges
  • Three lanes of traffic in each direction
  • Sidewalk on east side of road

Schedule

  • 2017 - 2023: Preliminary Design Work
    • Noise, Traffic, Geotechnical, and Environmental Analyses
    • Preliminary Engineering Work
  • 2023: Final Design, Right-of-Way Acquisition, and Letting & Bidding
  • 2024-2025: Utility Relocation, Construction Begins
  • Late 2025: Construction Substantially Complete
