78th Street Improvements - Mercy Road to Pacific Street

About the Project

Reconstruction of 78th Street, from Mercy to Pacific, includes sidewalk, storm sewer, driveway, roadway pavement, and retaining walls.  The project will include a traffic study and public involvement to determine the concept for the corridor as well as keeping the community informed of the progress through to final design and construction.  Roadway improvements on Poppleton Avenue from 78th Avenue to 78th Street are also included in this project.

Construction Updates
 
September 21, 2021
  • Recent work involving a new water main along 78th Street which included new residential service lines has been completed. The installation of the new OPPD line transmission placements on the east side from Woolworth to Pierce Street has also been completed and will be energized over the next three weeks.
  • Beginning late this week, the final stretch of phase D from Pine Circle to approximately 300' north of Woolworth Avenue will begin.  Subgrade preparation will begin late this week with final paving of the area tentatively scheduled to begin the week of September 27th.
  • Upon completion of the paving work, remaining driveways, sidewalks and seeding/sodding installation will take place.
  • At this time, all work is scheduled to wrap up by mid November, weather pending.
June 29, 2021
Due to recent rains, the closure of the intersection of Woolworth will now begin Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
 
June 24, 2021
Work on Phases A-C involving Mercy Road to Pine Circle is complete as well as Phase F - Poppleton Ave west of 78th Street. At this time Phase E work is finishing up with driveway and sidewalk installation as well grading. Some overlap work with Phase E will continue with the start of Phase D set to take place on/around June 30th.

December 17, 2020
78th Street is closed from Pine Circle to Woolworth Avenue. 78th Street is open to local traffic only from Woolworth Avenue to Pierce Circle. This will continue throughout the winter months until Spring 2021.

  • 78th Street work completed in 20202 is open to local traffic only from Mercy Road to Pine Circle
August 12, 2020
Phase C work involving the stretch along 78th Street from Hickory Circle to Pine Circle is scheduled to close and begin on/around August 19th weather pending. This work will also include the intersection tie-ins to 78th Street at Hickory Street and at Pine Circle. Click here for the resident letter.
 
May 8, 2020
Phase B work involving the stretch along 78th Street from just south of Shirley Street to Hickory Circle is scheduled to begin on/around May 18th weather pending. This stretch will also include Shirley Street from 78th Street to approximately 220' east of 78th Street. Click here for the resident letter.
 
May 6, 2020
Beginning Monday, May 11, 2020, TAB Construction will begin work involving the Poppleton Avenue SID along Poppleton Avenue from just east of 78th Avenue to 78th Street. Click here for the resident letter.
 
May 2019
Beginning Wednesday, May 29, 2019, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., South 78th Street between Mercy Road and Pierce Street will be closed during peak hours for utility work by MUD and will be in effect for fourteen (14) days.
